Palex Medical acquires four companies from Grupo Taper

The transaction affects the hospital business of the Madrid-based company, which will contribute revenues of €33 million to the firm.

Taper distributes equipment and products for both medical centres and laboratories in pathology, research, diagnostics and the food industry.

The transaction, the amount of which has not been disclosed, includes the company Taper Servicio Técnico, which has assumed all the hospital equipment business in Spain; the Portuguese companies Taper Equipamentos de Precisão Científica and Biocitek Equipamentos de Diagnóstico, as well as Cymit Química; the latter company is headquartered in Barcelona and specialises in the online sale of chemical and bio-research reagents.

One year after the sale of a majority stake to the private equity firmCorpfin, the Catalan healthcare technology company Palex Medical strengthens itself with the acquisition of the hospital equipment distribution business of Grupo Taper, a Madrid-based company that also operates in the gym sector under the Viding brand; this activity is excluded from the transaction.

The transaction affects the hospital business of the Madrid-based company, which will contribute revenues of €33 million to the firm.

Sources at Palex explained that the businesses now acquired generate revenues of €33 million. This is a significant figure, as the company founded by the Knuth family—which retains 40% of the capital—recorded revenues of €110 million last year, almost 3% more.

According to Palex, this acquisition strengthens its position in the distribution of healthcare equipment in Spain and Portugal.

The transaction with Grupo Taper will involve the incorporation of around one hundred employees into Palex’s workforce, which will now total 400 people, based in Sant Cugat del Vallés, Madrid and Lisboa.
