International funds invested €993.4M across 79 deals, marking a historic record in the number of transactions within a single half-year period.
The total number of investments, 344, remained stable. Venture Capital was the leading segment by number of investments, with 297 deals.
Fundraising by domestic private investors reached €990M, representing a 36.4% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
During the first six months of the year, investment volume declined, although the remaining indicators continued to perform at a solid pace.
Now more than ever, Private Capital is essential to the economy due to its role in driving startups and SMEs.
Según las primeras estimaciones obtenidas por la Asociación de Capital, Crecimiento e Inversión (ASCRI) a través de la plataforma europea EDC, el volumen de inversión en España alcanzó en la primera mitad del año 1.434M€ en un total de 344 inversiones. Si bien el volumen de inversión ha sufrido una caída (67% menos que en el mismo periodo de 2019) debido a que no se han cerrado megadeals, el número de operaciones se ha mantenido estable respecto a años anteriores a pesar de la situación actual. El Venture Capital ha sido el dinamizador respecto al número de operaciones, con un volumen de 307,2M€ en un total de 297 inversiones.
Aquilino Peña, presidente de ASCRI: “Actualmente, y aunque la industria de Venture Capital & Private Equity atravesará un periodo de cierta ralentización, el capital privado es parte de la solución y jugará un papel fundamental en los próximos meses, tanto en el aspecto inversor como en su experiencia en la gestión. Desde ASCRI reclamamos certidumbre y una regulación estable para que los inversores internacionales continúen apostando por España”.
By type of investor, international funds continued to show strong interest in Spain, accounting for €993.4M invested across 79 deals—a historic record in terms of transaction volume within a semester. Domestic private investors completed 208 investments, while domestic public investors carried out 57 transactions.
By deal size, the middle market (transactions with equity investments between €10M and €100M) maintained its momentum, totaling €612.2M across 23 deals. Of the total number of transactions recorded, 309 involved equity investments below €5M.
By stage of development, buyouts stood out, with €375.4M invested across 13 transactions. In the growth segment, 26 deals were completed for a total of €143M.
The sectors receiving the highest investment volumes were Industrial Products and Services (34%), Biotechnology (21%), and Electronics (11%). In terms of number of investments, IT led with 180 deals, followed by Healthcare/Medicine and Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering (29), and Industrial Products and Services (20).

Fundraising (capital raised by private equity to invest) by domestic private investors reached €990M, representing a 36.4% increase compared to the same period in 2019. This growth is largely due to fundraising processes initiated in 2019.
Divestments
Divestment volume reached an estimated €656.3M (at cost) across 101 transactions.
80% of the volume was divested through “trade sales,” 7% through “write-downs,” and 4% via “loan repayments.”
