They say that in Fuenterrab\u00eda (Guip\u00fazcoa), \u201cyou kick a stone and an entrepreneur comes out.\u201d From one of those kicks came the president and founder of Go Fit<\/a>, Gabriel S\u00e1ez, who presented the case of his company during the III Wuics Congress on sports centre management.

THE ORIGIN<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom parents who were waiters (hence the service vocation), a mediocre athlete, rugby player, educated by Jesuits and Capuchins, a poor student of INEF.\u201d Gabriel S\u00e1ez began by defining himself this way in his speech at the congress. He has now spent 23 years in the sector, \u201cproviding solutions to public administrations through the construction, management and planning of sports services for citizens,\u201d something the executive explains \u201cstarted in Barcelona, with Rafa Niub\u00f2, who realised that the number of sports facilities after the Olympic Games was not sustainable and that a model was needed to manage them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president and founder of Go Fit<\/a> stated that \u201cwe didn\u2019t invent anything, we simply interpreted a model in our own way\u201d when in 2009, in Montecarmelo (Madrid), they opened their first centre. They expected to reach 4,000\u20135,000 members and within a month and a half they were at 10,000. Later, \u201cthanks to the trust of Corpfin Capital<\/a>, which backed this model, we were able to continue opening centres in C\u00f3rdoba, Ciudad Real, M\u00e1laga\u2026 until reaching the 18 we have opened,\u201d acknowledged the entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Gabriel S\u00e1ez explained \u201chow\u201d he believes they have reached this point, emphasising that the main factor was \u201cdefining our path, which is neither the best nor the worst, it is simply ours and it is very clearly defined.\u201d Among other things, the executive also stated that they have always tried to remain \u201cvery connected with the client and the sector, as there is always something to learn from someone in a conversation.\u201d \u201cHaving absolute tolerance for error has been another key factor,\u201d admitted S\u00e1ez, who also added \u201chonesty, courage, loyalty and motivating the organisation\u201d as other pillars of Go Fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

READY FOR EXPANSION<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Taking care of all these aspects and carefully selecting and nurturing staff (9 out of 10 employees recommend working at the company), currently made up of 800 employees, should be the foundations of the brand\u2019s expansion, which has \u201ca structure designed for many more centres,\u201d acknowledged S\u00e1ez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And according to the president and founder of Go Fit, what are currently \u20ac150 million in assets, 150,000 clients, \u20ac40 million in revenue (2015) and a presence in Spain and Portugal, should become \u20ac300 million in assets, 500,000 clients, \u20ac120 million in revenue, an EBITDA of \u20ac60 million, and a presence in four or five European countries by 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the numbers support it, we will continue with expansion,\u201d added S\u00e1ez, who noted that \u201cin Spain there are still opportunities, although in some places things are getting out of hand and unless we increase the percentage of the population attending centres, there will be oversupply, something that is already happening in some locations.\u201d Regarding a possible entry into Barcelona, and despite having \u201ca couple of sites identified,\u201d the president of Go Fit admitted that \u201ccompetition is very strong and that is a major barrier to taking the step.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE GO FIT METHOD<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In any case, ambitious objectives for a brand that has found in \u201chealth\u201d its differentiating factor, explained Gabriel S\u00e1ez: \u201cwe are facing a perfect storm of population ageing, life expectancy and sedentary lifestyles; that is why we are investing heavily in the Go Fit method, through which the client will ultimately choose us as their centre in two, five or ten years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to achieve this, S\u00e1ez places his trust both in the person responsible for the customer experience, Jes\u00fas D\u00edaz, and in the person leading research investment, Dr. Alfonso Jim\u00e9nez, who is focused on \u201claunching a health indicator for clients and seeking scientific evidence to support the Go Fit method,\u201d stated the entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
